2020 NBA Fantasy Basketball MVP Discussion: LUKA Doncic’s 5 Best Stat Lines Of The Season

In just his second year, Luka Doncic has clearly established himself as a top-10 player in the NBA. He leads the league in triple-doubles (14) but he has missed a total of 13 games because of various injuries.

Even so, the scary thing about Luka is that he is barely scratching the surface of his potential, which, in my opinion, is league MVP and possibly the best fantasy basketball player down the line.

So how does Luka measure up against the best? According to FantasyData, Doncic has the sixth-most fantasy points with 2,767.40 points. That puts his FPPG average to around 52. If he has not missed any game at all and still continue to produce at that leve, Luka could have a total of 3,443.40 points, which would lead the entire NBA.

Still, 54 games provides us plenty of choices as far as Doncic’s five best stat lines for the season. Take a look:

1.) Duel vs LeBron

If not for a defensive miscue late in regulation, the Mavs could have easily won the game. Instead, they stumbled late in overtime, but it was not Luka’s fault. Doncic was spectacular, registering 31 points, 13 rebounds, and 15 assists (plus a block).

From a fantasy perspective: The value of Luka Doncic is primarily on points, rebounds, assists, FG%, and 3PM. Even his FT% is average for someone with a wet jumper as he does. I have no doubt in my mid that Luka can be a mid-to-high 80’s FT shooter as his career advances but in fantasy basketball right now, that caps off his ceiling quite a bit.

2.) Showing off against Golden State

What do you expect in a 48-point beatdown? A complete line wouldn’t so bad and Luka delivered. All in 25 minutes of play.

From a fantasy perspective: It was the customary triple double (35-10-11) for the Slovenian but he added four steals for good measure. Not only that, he also made six threes, six-for-seven from the line, and 11-for-18 from the field. Doncic has about 70 FP in total for the night.

3.) 41-point triple double vs Detroit in Mexico City

Mexico City is treated to one of the best performances by Luka in his relatively young career. The Mavs used a huge second-half surge to ultimately bury the Pistons by 11.

From a fantasy perspective: Luke had another excellent line (41-12-11) but holes in his fantasy game shows up every now and then. He only made 7 of 12 from the line in the game although he did make six threes.

4.) Another gem vs GSW

Yes, GSW may be a laughing stock but the fact that Doncic recorded two triple-doubles against them in three outings is downright impressive.

From a fantasy perspective: A triple-double is always good especially if you’re playing DFS (some platforms give bonus points to triple-doubles) but I can’t help but wish Luka would be this good at the charity stripe. He was 10-for-10 in the night and made five shots from deep.

5.) Career-high 42 vs Spurs

The Spurs are usually tough for guards to play against just because they can throw so many guys at you. This night, however, is different as Doncic registered a career-high 42 against Derrick White and company.

From a fantasy perspective: Aside from the 42, Doncic also registered 11 rebounds and 12 assists against five turnovers. He usually doesn’t rack up defensive stats so like his FT shooting, that’s the dent in his fantasy basketball armor.
