2020 NBA Fantasy Basketball MVP Discussion: LeBron James’ 5 Best Stat Lines Of The Season

It’s hard to determine who the MVP of 2020 Fantasy Basketball but there are at least SIX who are in the conversation, in my opinion. These are James Harden, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Anthony Davis, Nikola Jokic, James Harden, and Luka Doncic. Doncic missing games is an issue but still, he is a force to be reckoned with 52.61 fantasy points per game, according to NBA’s official fantasy scoring system.

But we will get to Luka at another time. This article is about LeBron James, AKA The Washed King, AKA Not the best player in the world anymore. Personally, I don’t think James deserves an unofficial fantasy MVP award but the things he is doing at year 17 is amazing nonetheless.

Like pretty much all self-proclaimed experts predict, James should at least show a bit of regression this season. After playing only 55 games last season, the three-time champion could subject himself to load management and sit out some games.

That did not happen. Instead, Bron played in 60 of the team’s possible 63 games, while leading the entire NBA in assists! That’s his first assist title in 17 seasons and he’s doing that at 35 years old! The league-leading dimes numbers plus elite scoring and rebounding enabled James to average 54.28 FP, basing on NBA’s official scoring system.

To prove that James still belong in the fantasy basketball MVP conversation, here are his 5 best games of the 2019-20 season.

1.) First duel with Luka

It’s still at the dawn of the season when Luka and Bron met for the first time in 2019-20. The Lakers are riding a three-game win streak after an opening night loss to the Clippers while Dallas was also 3-1 at that point.

Wonder Boy was giving Bron’s team the business as he finished with 31-13-15. However, Danny Green‘s corner three at the buzzer off a James assist forced OT. From there, The King dominated en route to 119-110 victory.

From a fantasy perspective: Luka’s line was amazing but LeBron managed to top it to the tune of 39 points, 12 rebounds, 16 assists, four steals, and a block. Accounting for the four turnovers, that’s a total of 88.4 points! If you pick him for DFS that day, he probably fetched you a lot of money.

2.) The Old King vs The New Royalty?

Going up against Giannis Antetokounmpo and the league-leading Bucks, James, no doubt, has something to prove. Milwaukee had previously beaten the Lakers in Wisconsin and chatter about how the Purple and Gold couldn’t beat the top teams has gained steam.

Well, to make the long story short, Bron showed the Greek Freak he’s not vacating the throne anytime soon. Giannis still had 32-11-6 but it was LeBron and the Lakers who got the last laugh.

From a fantasy perspective: It was not LeBron’s perfect game as he went 1 for 7 from he arc and had four turnovers. Fortunately, he also had 37 points, eight rebounds, eight assists, and three steals. That’s still 69.6 fantasy points in total.

3.) Random Game, Elite Numbers

This was just a random game the Lakers did what they had to do and that’s dispatch the lowly Hawks with a 21-point beatdown. However, this was special in many ways namely because Kobe Bryant was there and this was the only game of the season where LeBron has not committed a turnover!

From a fantasy perspective: Everyone knew it’s going to be a no-contest but James made sure he put on a show. He totaled 65.4 fantasy points, thanks to 33 points, seven boards, 12 dimes, a steal, a block, and ZERO turnovers.

4.) LeBron vs Zion 2

LeBron and Zion first met at Staples Center days earlier and James took over with a season-high 40. So how should he fare against the Pelicans’ young legs on the road? Answer: Triple-double!

James picked New Orleans apart in every facet of the game. He did have six turnovers but he took only 21 shots to get 34 while piling up on assists and rebounds, like he always had.

From a fantasy perspective: The six TOs hurt a little bit especially in roto, but in DFS and points leagues, 67.9 points is something special.

5.) LeBron vs Dallas, Game 4

The Lakers looks to clinch the season series in this game and it was a shutout. They led from wire to wire, led by LeBron’s 35 points, 16 rebounds, seven assists, a steal, against three turnovers. If you did the math, that’s a total 64.7 fantasy points.

More LeBron James fantasy facts for 2019-20:

  • The Lakers are 21-0 when he scores 30 or more.
  • James only had four multiple block games this season, his lowest since 2013-14 where he had, believe it or not, only two games of at least 2 or more blocks.
  • His 2.2 threes made per game is the highest of his career.
  • Only player to record at least 39-12-16 with four steals for the season and in NBA history. Source: Basketball Reference
